A U.S. District Judge has issued a preliminary injunction, blocking Elon Musk’s "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE) from accessing sensitive personal data held by the U.S. Treasury Department. This includes Social Security numbers and bank account details of millions of Americans.
The ruling comes after a lawsuit filed by 19 Democratic attorneys general, accusing Musk’s team of unlawfully gaining access to the Treasury’s payment system, which handles vital services like tax refunds and veterans' benefits. 🚫💳
Attorney General Letitia James called it a breach of security and privacy, raising concerns over federal payments being interfered with or even blocked. A hearing has been set for February 14th. 🏛️👨⚖️
